Volunteer Sign-Up Form

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Canada (FCAC) welcomes your interest in serving as a volunteer. Under the leadership and direction of local FCA employees, FCA Volunteers give of their time and effort to support and advance the work of FCA, serving in a leadership capacity and roles. Volunteers will receive training and be equipped to serve Christ through the ministries of FCA Canada in which they may participate.

What’s expected of an FCA Volunteer?

1. Vision – you will help fulfill the FCA Vision: “To see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.”

2. Minister – you will be involved with one or more of the FCA Canada Ministries that engage, equip and empower coaches and/or athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of sports to impact their world for Jesus Christ. The FCA ministries in Canada include a variety of programs for coaches and athletes in a variety of contexts.

3. Influence – you will use the gifts and talents God has entrusted to you to be a Christ-like example in your relationships and be a Christian role model.

4. Values – your relationships will demonstrate steadfast commitment to Jesus Christ and His Word through Integrity, Serving, Teamwork and Excellence.

Integrity – you will demonstrate Christ-like wholeness, privately and publicly.
Serving – you will model Jesus’ example of serving.
Teamwork – you will express your unity in Christ in all your relationships.
Excellence – you will honor and glorify God in all you do.

5. Time – you will be willing to invest time volunteering through ministering to coaches and athletes.

6. Policies – you will function within all the FCA Canada policies, guidelines, and authority structure.

What are the qualifications to be an FCA Volunteer?

1. Committed Christian – you have accepted the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; and are demonstrating this by walk and talk.

2. Athletically Focused – you are interested in the world of sport, have an athletic background, and/or understand that athletics is a powerful medium to impact the world for Jesus Christ.

3. Church – you are involved in a local church.

4. Growing – you are seeking God’s will with all your heart through prayer, Bible reading, and other spiritual disciplines.

5. Affirm – you understand and affirm and agree to be bound by the Statement of FCA Canada’s Christian Character and Mission, and, as a member of the FCA community of faith, to be held accountable to abide by FCA Canada’s Christian Community Statement.

FCA CANADA’S STATEMENT OF FAITH

What the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Canada believes:

1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

2. We believe there is only one God who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)

3. We believe Jesus Christ is God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His death that paid for, our sin through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension/rising up to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory. (John 1:1; Matthew 1:18,25; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 9:15-22; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; Acts 1:9- 311; Hebrews 9:27-28)

4. We believe that acceptance of Jesus Christ and the corresponding renewal of the Holy Spirit are the only paths to salvation for lost/ sinful men and women. (John 3:16; John 5:24; Titus 3:3-7)

5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, who lives within and guides Christians so they are enabled to live godly lives. (John 14:15-26; John 16:5-16; Ephesians 1:13-14)

6. We believe in eternal life, and that through belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, we spend eternity with the Lord in Heaven. We believe that in rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we receive eternal suffering in hell. (Matthew 25:31-46; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ that all believers are members of His body, the Church. (Philippians 2:1-4)

8. We believe God’s design for sexual intimacy is to be expressed only within the context of marriage, that God created man and woman to complement and complete each other. God instituted marriage between one man and one woman as the foundation of the family and the basic structure of human society. For this reason, we believe that marriage is exclusively the union of one man and one woman. (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5-6; Mark 10:6-9; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9)

9. We believe that God created all human beings in His image. Therefore, we believe that human life is sacred from conception to its natural end; that we must honor the physical and spiritual needs of all people; following Christ’s example, we believe that every person should be treated with love, dignity and respect. (Psalm 139:13; Isaiah 49:1; Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 22:37-39; Romans 12:20-21; Galatians 6:10)

STATEMENT OF APPLICANT’S CHRISTIAN FAITH

As an inter-denominational ministry, FCA Canada is Christ centered…focus of our message; Kingdom minded… serving the purpose of the Church; Bible based…source of our authority; athletically focused…ministering to coaches and athletes; spiritually nurturing…helping people to know and grow in Christ; fellowship oriented… connecting people through the love of Christ; volunteer intensive…mobilizing adults to accomplish the mission; culturally adaptive…meeting the diverse needs of people; and faith financed…funded through people moved by God to give. Our purpose is “to present to coaches and athletes, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.”

Because of the nature of the work of FCA, it is important that you have beliefs in accordance with FCA Canada’s purpose.

FCA Canada’s ministry used the tools of evangelism and discipleship to help people discover Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and help them to grow in Him. FCA Canada is a non-denominational ministry and so does not promote any particular denomination or any denominational distinctives so those serving with and through FCAC should strive to honor this commitment. SCREENING OF CANDIDATES

Every individual who desires to serve with FCA by working with youth under the age of 18 will be subject to screening and must be approved prior to commencing any volunteer assignment. In addition, those who fall into this category (and are over the age of 18) are required to submit a recent (dated within the last six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) reporting satisfactory results.
